Julia D. McGuinness

My working life has involved various occupations from schoolteacher to part-time radio journalist, but the underlying creative connection throughout is a twin passion for nurturing people's development and for effective communication.

I found the MBTI® tool so personally helpful that I wanted to teach it to others, and became a Registered Practitioner with the Oxford Psychologists' Press in 1997. Since then I have given private consultations and run events for staff teams and other groups. I have worked with other practitioners and also independently to deliver basic workshops. I have also devised and presented follow-up workshops, applying the MBTI® method to issues such as stress, team-working, personal maintenance, life's transitions and Christian spirituality.

Since gaining my post-graduate diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling at Leicester University in 2001, I have worked in both educational and medical settings. I have 4 years' NHS experience as an in-house counsellor in a GP surgery. As an Independent Practitioner, I receive private client referrals via the internet or personal recommendation. I also receive referrals from organisations' Employee Assistance Programmes.

I am an Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. This means that I abide by the Association's ethical guidelines and am subject to its complaints procedure. It also entails a commitment to ongoing professional training and development through courses, seminars and personal research. In addition, I regularly consult with an experienced supervisor with regard to my practice.

I have had particular experience counselling clients facing: Stress, anxiety, depression, loss and bereavement, relationship issues, low self-esteem, sexual abuse, mid-life concerns, health issues, spirituality, and anger management.

I have a special interest in issues around mid-life transition, which has been a focus of personal research and writing.

I seek to work with integrity with all my clients, whether in the context of the MBTI® tool or counselling, and to offer a service both professionally competent and personally accessible.
